Community Based Support

Community Based Supports, CBS, helps a child become more independent and integrated in their community. CBS provides children with opportunities to explore their interests by providing the supports necessary to participate in community activities and events. This could include anything from attending Art Camp once a year to weekly Girl Scouts. CBS provides a variety of learning opportunities for children to interact with others in typical community activities through a proven teaching method – peer modeling. The activities must be age-appropriate with typically developing peers. Children learn from Children: Children will learn through watching their peers and seeing how others behave (appropriately) in community settings while having fun! The activities or events must not replace services such as school or therapy that is currently being provided in another environment and must not supplant the role of the primary caregiver.
